Great Southern Homes has been building quality homes since 1999, built on a solid foundation of true visionaries and homes that are built to last. Great Southern Homes builds new homes in Columbia, Chapin, Blythewood, Lexington, Lugoff - Elgin, Camden, Aiken, Florence and Sumter, SC. Future opportunities for mid to late 2015 include Charleston, Greenville, and Horry County.

The Founder

Michael P. Nieri graduated from Clemson University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Science and Management. Soon thereafter he began building custom homes. In 1999, Nieri visualized a need in the Columbia market for well built, affordably priced homes and commenced building homes for first time homebuyers with his signature style and quality.

For over 20 years, Nieri's quality craftsmanship has been showcased in some of the finest homes in Columbia, S.C. He continues to operate Great Southern Homes with the same fundamental philosophy he established years ago as a custom builder, "Family Building for Families." The Great Southern Homes team, which includes several members of Michael's immediate family, provides the highest quality and value in every new home while maintaining the shortest construction cycle possible.

Where They Have Been & Where They Are Headed

Like many builders, Great Southern Homes experienced a lot of success during the housing boom of the mid 2000's. At our peak in 2007, we sold over 700 homes. We were recognized as one of the fastest growing builders in the country by Builder Magazine and we were the top builder in the Columbia market.

During the downtown this number dropped as low as 129 sales in 2011. While other builders fell to the wayside, Michael Nieri used this slowdown as an opportunity to streamline his company and processes, improve his product line and variety of offerings, create an unrivaled energy program, strengthen his land positions, and to plan for the future. Three years later, we have quadrupled sales revenue, finishing 2014 with 419 sold. With home sites in over 50 communities, multiple new markets on board and more in the works, plus a rising housing market Great Southern Homes can safely estimate sales for 2015 to fall between 650-750 homes sold, possibly our best year ever. We want to give thanks to each and every person who have helped us get here.
